I was recently inspired to search for the illusive snowy owl when I heard that it had come to my neighborhood. The polar bird was last seen over 100 years ago. One has been preserved at the AMNH, it was shot by president Theodore Roosevelt in 1876.

What is the cause for the resurfacing of the snowy owl on Long Island? Is it because of the recent climate change? Of course, there have been many large snow storms in the winter of 2020. Did the owl know of this ahead of the winter? What happened in 1876? Will the owls be back next year? I found this website which has a good data history of extreme weather occurrences. https://www.currentresults.com/Yearly-Weather/USA/NY/New-York-City/extreme-annual-new-york-city-snowfall.php
